The BC SCRAP IT Program's goal is to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality by getting older vehicles off the road. By using incentive programs such as this, we are able to assist British Columbians in retiring their higher polluting vehicles with cleaner forms of transportation. This way, we can also make sure that all scrapped vehicles and their components are permanently and properly recycled.
To Qualify for Incentives
You must own and currently operate a 2000 or older car or light-duty truck
You must have insured your vehicle for the last 6 months continuously in BC
Your vehicle must be in driving condition
Keeping an older vehicle on the road might be more costly than you realize. When you incorporate the continuous maintenance costs and the damage to the environment, you could be spending more than you think.
Step 1
APPLY
Fill out the E-Application found here. Fax or mail in your 6-month continuous vehicle insurance documentation. Contact ICBC to obtain these documents by calling 1-800-663-3051.
Step 2
GET APPROVED
Wait for your approval email. It will arrive in about 2 business days from the day they receive your completed application. This includes the insurance documents referred to in Step 1.
Step 3
CLAIM YOUR INCENTIVE
Your approval email will contain a link to all of the information that you will need to claim the incentive.
Step 4
SCRAP YOUR VEHICLE
Your approval email will also contain all the information that you will need to scrap your vehicle. (Please note you have a maximum of 30 days to scrap your vehicle and claim your incentive).
